Considerations for Primary Affiliations

How the Primary Flag Is Updated

When you mark an affiliation between a Healthcare Professional (HCP) and a Healthcare Organization (HCO) as primary, the primary flag is cleared on the HCP's other affiliations so that only one primary affiliation remains.

• Affiliations between an HCP and an HCO (HCP-HCO) have their primary flag cleared.
• Affiliations between two HCPs (HCP-HCP) are exempt. Their primary flag isn't cleared, so an HCP-HCP affiliation can remain marked as primary alongside a primary HCP-HCO affiliation.

Primary Changes and Data Change Requests

When the primary flag is cleared on an affiliation as a result of marking another affiliation as primary, the Data Change Request (DCR) approval process isn't started for that change. The DCR approval process is intentionally skipped for primary flag changes made by this automatic update.
