Custom Actions that appear on record pages require a corresponding Standard Action in Salesforce. Match the standard action's name to the custom action's Quick Action field. Custom Actions on custom pages, such as the home page and Next Best Customer, don't require a standard action counterpart.
Your company performs two types of visits, each with different actions.
- Record Type: Sales Call. Assigned page layout: Sales Visit Layout. Actions: Last Visit, Next Best Customer, and Email.
- Record Type: Discovery Visit. Assigned page layout: Discovery Visit Layout. Actions: Capture Insight, a URL action linking to a digital brochure, and an Utterance action for post-visit notes.
- From Setup, open Object Manager and select the object you want to add the action to.
- Select Buttons, Links, and Actions, and then select New Action.
-
Set the Action Type and complete the required fields.
Verify that the action's Name matches the Quick Action field on the Custom Action record. This links the page layout action to the Custom Action.
- Save the action.
- Open the object's Page Layouts and select the layout you want to update.
-
Drag the new action into the Salesforce Mobile and Lightning Experience
Actions section.
To customize which actions appear for specific record types, edit the assigned page layouts.
- Save your changes.
- Generate a new metadata cache.
