How Media Plans Work in Advertising Sales Management
Media plans are modeled as quotes and ad quotes in Salesforce. When a media planner creates a media plan, a quote and an ad quote are created for the media plan. The ad quote is associated with the quote.
Each ad product or service that a media planner adds to a media plan as ad placement, the ad placement is represented as a quote line item and an ad quote line. The quote line items are associated with the media plan's quote. And the ad quote lines are associated with the ad quote of the media plan and the corresponding quote line item.
When the media planner configures a line item, the configuration details are saved across various records. For example, if the media planner adds an ad space and a creative size for an ad placement, these records are created for the ad placement: ad quote line ad space spec and ad quote line creative size type. Here are the other records that are created based on the configuration of ad placements:
- Ad quote line delivery schedule
- Ad quote line delivery frequency
- Ad quote line hiatus
- Ad quote line target value
- Ad quote line target expression
Difference Between Ad Product and Ad Placement
An ad product is a type of advertisement that your company as a publisher offers to serve on your media properties for advertisement campaigns. For example, a banner or a pre-roll video is an ad product in your portfolio. When an ad product is added to a media plan, the ad product is referred to as an ad placement because in the media plan tactical details of the ad placement are configured like pricing, delivery setting, ad space, and creative size, attributes, and targeting criteria.
Key Considerations While Working with Media Plans
- Media planners can add ad placement bundles that consist of a two-level hierarchy of ad
placement bundles. An ad placement bundle that's added to a media plan can consist of
child and grandchild ad placement bundles.
- Media planners must remove ad placements and then add them back if the ad sales admin changes the preset targeting criteria of the ad products or product classifications after an ad placement is added to the media plan.
- Media planners must refresh the media plan to view the configuration changes they saved for ad placements on the various tabs of the Line Item Configuration panel.
