Example: Calculate Emissions for a Custom Fuel Type and Unit of Measure

Example: Calculate Emissions for a Custom Fuel Type and Unit of Measure

In this example, you want to calculate emissions from energy use for the petroleum hydrocarbon gas fuel type for the tCO2/1,000Nm3 unit of measure.

          Required Editions

          Available in: Lightning Experience
Available in: Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer Editions
          1. Create a custom fuel type.

Fuel Name = Petroleum hydrocarbon gas

          2. Create a unit of measure.

Unit of Measure Name = 1000Nm3

Unit of Measure Type = Volume

          3. Map the fuel type to the unit of measure.

Fuel Type = Petroleum hydrocarbon gas

            Unit of Measure = 1000Nm3

          4. Create a unit of measure conversion.

Fuel Name = Petroleum hydrocarbon gas

Source Unit of Measure = 1000Nm3

Target Unit of Measure = kWh

Conversion Factor = User provided conversion factor to convert source UOM to target UOM. For example, user provides a conversion factor of 0.01086 to convert 1000Nm3 to kWh for fuel type Petroleum hydrocarbon gas

          5. Create an emissions factor set item.

Name = Petroleum hydrocarbon gas OEFSI

Fuel Type = Petroleum hydrocarbon gas

            CO2 Emissions Factor = 5 g/kWh

          6. Create a stationary asset energy use record using the custom fuel type.

Fuel Type = Petroleum hydrocarbon gas [Custom]

            Fuel Consumption = 31

Fuel Consumption Unit = 1000Nm3 [Custom]

Other Emissions Factors = Petroleum hydrocarbon gas OEFSI

            Fuel Consumption (kWh) = 31 (1000Nm3) * 0.01086 (kWh) = 0.33666 kWh

            Emissions in tCO2e = 0.33666 (kWh) * 5 (g/kWh) = 1.6833 g Co2e = 1.68333/1000000 tCo2e
