Based on Greenhouse Gas Protocol’s Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Accounting and Reporting Standard, emissions are generally categorized into upstream emissions, downstream emissions, and uncategorized emissions.
Upstream emissions include your company’s purchased goods and used services. Downstream emissions include everything associated with your company’s goods and services reaching your customers and handling of end-of-life products.
Net Zero Cloud supports the accounting for scope 3 emissions, and specifically makes procurement-related scope 3 emissions easy to calculate.
The Scope 3 Hub offers a single point of management for your company’s procurement-related scope 3 emissions:
- Procurement emissions factor set datasets represent reference data that’s used to calculate an amount of currency as an approximate amount of tCO2e (metric tons of carbon-dioxide equivalent).
- Scope 3 procurement summary represents a group of scope 3 procurement items that quantify and classify specific spending and relate that to a carbon footprint.
- Setup Assistant guides you through a step-by-step checklist to set up Net Zero Cloud.
- Apply historical inflation rates to adjust the emissions factors so that procurement data from a year different from the emissions factor data can be used to do the calculations.
- Inflation Rate Records
Before matching scope 3 procurement summary, add any necessary inflation rates. - Use Setup Assistant to Track Scope 3 Emissions Data
Use the Setup Assistant to guide you through setting up Net Zero Cloud for tracking scope 3 emissions data. - Manage Procurement Emissions Factor Sets Data
Use Net Zero Cloud’s United States Environmentally-Extended Input-Output (USEEIO) dataset to match emissions factors with your company data or to import your own emissions factor calculation model data. - Scope 3 Carbon Footprints
For easy reporting, create a carbon footprint for each fiscal year. If you want to separate emissions by attributes, such as region, or country, create multiple carbon footprint records for the same year. You can also roll multiple procurement summaries into a single carbon footprint record. - Manage Suppliers
Add supplier information to aggregate supplier emissions data. - Manage Scope 3 Procurement Summary
Load and match your Scope 3 Procurement Summary to calculate and categorize your scope 3 emissions impact. - Recalculate a Scope 3 Procurement Summary
Any changes to the emissions factors or inflation rates after the original matching can cause the Scope 3 procurement summary records to go out of sync with the reference data. Recalculate the Scope 3 procurement summary if the related carbon footprint record isn’t locked. - Delete Procurement Data
Procurement emissions factor set records can be deleted, but only after all related scope 3 procurement item records and scope 3 procurement summary records have been unlinked or removed.
