            Create a Stage Definition Assignment

            Use stage definition assignments to dynamically apply different stage journeys to records of the same object and record type. Customize stage progressions based on field values in the record.

            Required Editions

            Available in: Lightning Experience
            Available in: Automotive Cloud, Education Cloud, Financial Services Cloud, Health Cloud, Insurance Cloud, Life Sciences Cloud, and Manufacturing Cloud. View edition availability.
            User Permissions Needed
            To configure stage management: Stage Management Design User

            Before you get started, ensure that you have:

            • A stage definition that defines the stages for your process.
            • The object and (optional) record type that the stage definition applies to.
            1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Stage Management, then select Stage Definition Assignments.
            2. Click New.
              The New Stage Definition Assignment appears.
            3. Provide these details:
              Field Description
              Name and API Name Enter the name of the stage definition assignment. The API name is auto-populated from the stage definition assignment name that you enter. If necessary, you can change the API name.
              Reference Object Select the object that the stage definition applies to, such as Case, Incident, or Opportunity.
              Reference Object Record Type (optional) Select a record type if you want this stage definition to apply only to a specific type of record for the object.
              Stage Definition Search for and select the stage definition that you want to assign to the object.
              Description (optional) Enter the details about the purpose or logic of the assignment.

            The selected stage definition applies to all records that match the reference object and, if specified, the record type. You can now add rule criteria to dynamically assign different stage definitions based on field value.
