Understanding the Standard Dashboard Design

KPI definitions and profit and loss (P&L) frameworks are specific to your business. The standard dashboards and Semantic Data Model (SDM) are designed to be generic. Customize the standard components to display your custom KPIs, or build fully custom dashboards tailored to your reporting requirements.

The standard extended SDM provides generic calculated fields instead of dedicated metrics for individual KPIs.

  • Promotion Analysis Dashboard: Three generic calculated fields (Promotion Measure 1–3)
  • Tactic Analysis Dashboard: Two generic calculated fields (Tactic Measure 1–2)

The dashboards dynamically map the KPIs that you select to these generic calculated fields by using a parameter-based approach. The same dashboard components and visualizations can display different KPI values without requiring dedicated metrics.

For more information, see Semantic Data Models, Calculated Fields, and Parameters.

Customization Scenario 1: Use Custom KPIs with Standard Dashboards

To display your own custom KPIs on dashboards, follow these steps.

  1. Use the Extended Trade Promotion Management Analytics Semantic Data Model (SDM) to create your custom parameters and measures. Refer to the parameters and measures in Trade Promotion Management Analytics SDM to create your own.
  2. In the new parameters, add all your required KPIs.
  3. Clone the visualizations, and then replace the existing measures with your new measures.
  4. Clone the dashboards, and then replace the existing visualizations with your new visualizations.

Customization Scenario 2: Build Fully Custom Dashboards

If you need advanced analytics, many KPI-specific visualizations, or more measures than the standard dashboards provide, build fully custom dashboards.

Extend your SDM by creating dedicated metrics or calculated fields for each KPI that you want to use. Represent each KPI explicitly within the extended SDM instead of using the generic parameter-based mapping from the standard dashboards. You can then design custom dashboards directly on this model and use all your custom KPIs with full flexibility.
