          View the Scenario Planning Card

Scenario planning lets key account managers (KAMs) define multiple alternatives or scenarios for the same promotion, and then compare the expected results. Each scenario can include a different combination of promotion tactics and adjustment KPIs, which help identify the scenario that best fits the promotion's objectives.

          Required Editions

          Available in: Lightning Experience

Available in: Enterprise and Unlimited Editions where Consumer Goods Cloud is enabled

The system synchronizes the Scenario Planning card KPIs with the KPIs in the Promotion P&L view so that any change in the value of a KPI in one is reflected in the other.

To view the Scenario Planning card, on the Promotion Detail page, click card.

This table contains the name and function of each page element.

          Scenario Planning Table

This table shows one row for each tactic that's included in the promotion. The system sorts the tactics on the amount in ascending order.

The first two columns show the tactic template name and comment (used as an identifier). Columns S1 to S5 represent the scenarios.

By default, the system selects S1 as the active scenario, and all tactics included in the promotion are included in the active scenario. For each scenario, you can include or exclude each tactic. You can include or exclude all the tactics in a scenario by clicking the checkbox in the scenario header, but the number of tactics included in one scenario is limited to 15.

The system highlights the column that represents the active scenario and the cells that represent the tactics included in the scenario. You can select a new active scenario by clicking the scenario header.

          Note
          Note

The system considers only those tactics that are included in the active scenario for the Promotion P/L view, Volume Planning card, and Spend Planning card calculations. The system includes only those tactics that are included in the active and inactive scenarios, and deletes them when the promotion reaches any phase that's specified in the Promo Phases Cleaning setting of the promotion template.

When you enable automatic simple promotion date handling for the promotion template, whenever you include or exclude a tactic in the active scenario, the system recalculates the promotion timeframe.

Active Scenario Selector Use this button to select the active scenario. The system disables the buttons corresponding to the scenarios that have no tactics included, except the button corresponding to the active scenario.
          Note
Note When you enable automatic simple promotion date handling for the promotion template, whenever a new active scenario is selected, the system recalculates the promotion timeframe.
          Adjustment KPIs Row

The last rows of the scenario planning table represent the adjustment KPIs. For each scenario, you can edit the values of these KPIs only if the promotion is in Edit mode. For example, the KAM can use the KPI to specify the total planned volume that's expected from a specific promotion scenario.

You can configure the KPIs that the system shows in the promotion template.

If you configure the same KPIs in the Scenario Planning card, the Volume Planning card, and the Promotion P&L view, the system automatically reflects the changes made to the values of the KPIs (which are part of the active scenario) in any of these sheets in the other sheets.

The system stores the values of the adjustment KPIs (for active and inactive scenarios) and retrieves them when you later open the promotion. The system shows the KPI values based on the round value defined in the KPI definition.

          Clear Scenarios Button

This button is visible only if the promotion is in Edit mode, and is enabled only if more than one scenario is defined. Use this button to clear all tactics and adjustment KPIs from all scenarios (other than the active scenario). The tactic remains in the promotion–only the assignment of the tactic to the scenario is removed.

The button also clears the values in the scenario comparison table for all scenarios.

          Compare Button

The system shows this button only if the promotion is in Edit mode. It’s enabled only if more than one scenario is defined, and is used to trigger comparisons between the defined scenarios.

The system disables this button when you click it, and the calculation is ongoing or completed. You can, however, use the application while the calculation is in progress.

For comparison, the system considers the tactics that are included in the corresponding scenario and the manual entries defined for each tactic, even if the tactic is excluded from the active scenario. The compare process also considers the values of adjustment KPIs for each scenario.

The system calculates the KPI values for each scenario for the entire promotion (Date From to Date Thru). If you enable automatic promotion date handling for the promotion template, the system determines and shows the timeframe (Scenario Date From to Scenario Date Thru) to calculate the KPI values for each scenario when you hover over the scenario headers.

The system selects the Scenario Date From as either the earliest of the promotion's Shipment From Date or Promotion In-store Date From or the date from of the tactics included in the scenario.

          • The system selects the Scenario Date Thru value as either the latest of the In-store Date Thru of the promotion, Shipment Date Thru of the promotion, or Date Thru of the tactics that the scenario includes.
          Note
Note The maximum number of characters in the scenario planning calculation response is limited to 3,000, out of which the timeframe information requires 160 characters. Because each KPI name can contain up to 80 characters, this translates to each KPI value containing up to 15 characters (including six decimal places). If the KPI values exceed this length, the system doesn't include the scenario timeframes in the response and doesn't show them in the UI.

The comparison results appear in the scenario comparison table.

          Scenario Comparison Table

The system sorts the KPIs based on the value specified in the Sort Subset PSP field while associating KPI definitions to a KPI set. If you haven't specified the Sort Subset PSP value for all KPIs, the system first sorts the KPIs for which the values are available, followed by the other KPIs based on their sort values.

The system highlights the column that represents the active scenario. You can select a new active scenario by clicking the scenario header.

A Refresh button is available over the scenario comparison table whenever there’s a change in either the scenario settings or the values of any adjustment KPI. If a calculation is ongoing while you make these changes, the system prompts you to refresh the grid so that the table shows the calculated values by using the updated values. The system also provides the button in these scenarios:

          • There’s a change in the products of the promotion or tactic.
          • There’s a change in the sub accounts included in the promotion or in the % of volume of the included sub accounts.
          • A tactic is added or deleted from the promotion.
          • A tactic is included or excluded.
          • The promotion is frozen or unfrozen.
          • There’s a change in the categories included in the promotion.
          • There’s a change in the promotion's Date From, Date Thru, and Commit Date values.
          • There’s a change in the tactic’s Tactic Date From and Tactic Date Thru values.

The changes in a tactic attribute trigger a refresh only if the tactic is included in the promotion. Additionally, changes in the value of specific back-end attributes (attributes that aren’t visible to the user) will also trigger a refresh. Salesforce admins can configure additional promotion and tactic attributes so that any change in these values also triggers a refresh.

You can also refresh the values in the table by clicking the Compare button.

Open in modal window button This button opens the Scenario Planning card in a separate window.
