Derive Promotions
Derive a promotion to reuse a promotion to speed up the process of creating promotions. Deriving a promotion in Salesforce involves a structured process where the system automatically determines crucial dates and copies specific components from the source promotion.
Required Editions
Available in: Lightning Experience Available in: Enterprise and Unlimited Editions where Consumer Goods Cloud is enabled |
When you derive a promotion, the Commit Date of the new promotion is selected as its Date From value. Salesforce first calculates the offset, which is the difference between the In-Store Date of the new promotion and the In-store Date of the parent promotion. It then calculates the In-Store Date for the new promotion by adding the offset to the corresponding date of the parent promotion.
When a promotion is derived, Salesforce copies components from the source promotion to the new promotion based on the promotion template. The Copied Components field of the promotion template determines whether products, notes, and tactics are copied. The manual inputs of the parent promotion aren’t copied to the new promotion.
If the promotion template is configured to consider Account Product List, Salesforce copies only the products that belong to the Account Product List that's relevant to the anchor customer of the new promotion. If the sales org uses a time-dependent Account Product List, the products must be included in the list for at least one day during the timeframe of the new promotion.
Importance of KAM Status When Deriving Promotions
If you configure products to be copied, Salesforce copies the fixed products of the promotion to the new promotion. If the Product Definition Level of the promotion is Tactic and, in the Copied Components attribute, if both tactics and products are configured to be copied, then Salesforce copies the products that are associated with a tactic to the new promotion. In both scenarios, only the products with a valid KAM status are copied to the new promotion. The products must have a valid KAM status on either the date or date range. This status is enabled by using the Consider Product KAM Status setting of the promotion template.
Considerations for Deriving Promotions
- When a promotion is derived and tactics are configured to be copied, Salesforce doesn't copy the tactic-related funds to the child promotion tactic.
- You can’t derive every node of the customer or customer set. When deriving within a hierarchy (customer or customer set), ensure that the anchor of the child promotion is under the anchor of the parent promotion.
- You can use the metadata wizard or use BO APIs to customize the workflow to derive promotions. To know more about customizing the Derive Promotion workflow, see Customize Derive Promotion Workflow.
- Derive a Promotion
You can derive only committed promotions. Child promotions that are derived from a promotion contain a parent link to the promotion from which they were derived.
