          Example: Values in Custom Calendar

Here’s an example to explain how values are read for custom calendars.

Example Here’s the data for a standard and custom calendar.

          Sample data

Promotion ABC spans from Dec 01, 2020 to Dec 31, 2020. For the promotion and data, the standard calendar spans for five standard weeks (Week 49 - Week 53). But, the custom calendar spans for four custom weeks (Week 49 - Week 52).

          Custom weeks

The following conditions, weekday share profiles, and data is applicable for the given timeframe:

          Conditions

Based on the conditions and promotion timeframe, here are the sub periods for the custom calendar.

          Subperiods

Here’s how the actual volumes and baseline values for the different sub periods are calculated.

          • Actual Volume:
            • For a period, the actual volume is the sum of daily data for all the days of that period. For example, actual volume for period 1 = 10 + 20 + 30 + 40 + 50 = 150.
            • Similarly, the system calculates the actual volume for all the periods of the promotion.
          • Baseline Values:
            • As week 49 spans only for five days (Tuesday to Saturday) with a total share of 80%, the baseline volume for this week = 80% of 1,200 = 960.
            • Week 50 and Week 51 are standard weeks with seven days each. So, there’s no change in their values.
            • Based on the conditions, week 52 is split into two different sub periods, 4.1, 4.2. Here’s how their values are calculated.
              • Period 4.1 spans for only five days of week 52 with a total share of 70%. So, the baseline volume for this custom week = 70% of 1,000 = 700.
              • Period 4.2 spans in Week 52 and Week 53. With a total share of 30%, the baseline volume for this period in week 52 = 30% of 1,000 = 300. Similarly, for week 53, this period spans for five days. With a total share of 70%, the baseline volume for this period in week 53 = 70% of 1,200 = 840. So, the resultant value for period 4.2 = 300 + 840 = 1,140.

The image shows the values for product price, actual volume, and baseline volumes for the different sub periods:

          Values for different subperiods

Week 52 spans for two different sub periods for this custom calendar. Here’s how the values for this week are calculated.

          • Product price is calculated by applying the aggregation rule to the values of periods 4.1 and 4.2. So, value of product price for week 52 = (1 + 1.5) / 2 = 1.25.
          • Actual volume and baseline values are calculated by applying the aggregation rule to the values of periods 4.1 and 4.2. So, actual volume for week 52 = (200 + 280) = 480, and the baseline volume for week 52 = (700 + 1,140) = 1,840.

Here’s the resultant values reflect in the P&L view for the custom calendar.
