          Limit Example: Promotion

          Limit Example: Promotion

Promotions and account plan soft limits are validated by the system. See the most important promotion limits and the rationale behind these limits. These examples can be transferred to an account plan. But as the tactic dimension in the examples isn’t relevant for account plans, the dimensions aren't considered for the account plans.

          Soft Limit Per Dimension

A combination of these dimensions creates the number of cells that indicate whether a promotion P&L can be handled:

          • Products
          • Tactics
          • KPIs
          • Weeks
          Dimension Soft Limit

          Products

          1,000
          Tactics 15
          KPIs 130
          Weeks 78
          Minimum number of cells 152,100,000

If the dimensions of all soft limits are at the maximum simultaneously, the calculation engine and the user interface deal with close to 152.1 million data cells. This number is significantly higher than the capabilities as the technical upper limit is between 20–30 million data cells.

Soft limit of one dimension can exceed slightly if other dimensions in combination are significantly below their soft limits so that the maximum number of cells (products x tactics x KPIs x weeks) remains below the limit of 20 million data cells. See these examples for possible scenarios.

          Example 1

Here are two scenarios where the dimensions and the number of required data cells are below the soft limits.

Dimension Soft Limit per Dimension Scenario 1 Scenario 2
          Products 1,000 30 50
          Tactics 10 2 3
          KPIs 100 100 50
          Weeks 78 5 10
Minimum number of cells 30,000 75,000

          Example 2

Here are two scenarios where one dimension limit is slightly exceeded, but the combination is supported:

          • Scenario 1: The Products dimension exceeds the specified soft limit, but the other dimensions are within their specified soft limits and the maximum number of cells are within the overall cell limit.

          • Scenario 2: The KPIs' dimension exceeds the specified soft limit, but the other dimensions are within their specified soft limits and the maximum number of cells are within the overall cell limit.

            Note
Note To support such scenarios, request the Product Management Team to review and adopt the software validation for a soft limit.
Dimension Soft Limit per Dimension Scenario 1 Scenario 1
          Products 1,000 1,250 100
          Tactics 10 1 1
          KPIs 100 75 175
          Weeks 78 52 52

          Minimum number of cells

          4,875,000 910,000

          Example 3

Here are two scenarios that aren’t supported:

Scenario 1: The Products and Week dimensions exceed the specified soft limits, but the other dimensions are within the specified soft limits and the maximum number of cells also exceeds the soft limit.

Scenario 2: The Tactics and KPIs dimensions exceed the specified soft limits, but the other dimensions are within the specified soft limits and the maximum number of cells also exceeds the soft limit.

Dimension Soft Limit per Dimension Scenario 1 Scenario 1
          Products 1,000 1,500 900
          Tactics 10 7 20
          KPIs 100 90 131
          Weeks 78 100 52
Minimum number of cells 94,500,000 122,616,000
