Create a Named Credential for Virtual Calls

Create a named credential to specify the URL of an AWS Chime callout endpoint and its required authentication parameters. Then specify the named credential as a callout endpoint to let Salesforce handle all authentication to AWS Chime.

The AWS Cloud Formation template creates a single Identity and Access Management (IAM) user with specific role and permissions defined by IAM policies. An IAM user is a resource (person or application) that can make AWS API requests using its credentials. Coordinate with the AWS admin who performed the AWS Cloud Formation setup to obtain the user's IAM access key and secret, as you need it when configuring the Salesforce Named Credential.

  1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Named Credentials, then select Named Credentials.
  2. Click Arrow button located to right of New. next to New and select New Legacy.
    Important
Important In Winter ’23, Salesforce introduced an improved named credential that is extensible and customizable. Virtual Calls currently requires the Legacy Named Credential.
  3. Enter a label.
  4. In the URL field, enter the base URL for REST endpoints. For example, enter https://service.chime.aws.amazon.com.
This value is for informational purposes. Instead of using the value specified here, Salesforce determines the correct endpoint to use based on your region.
  5. Leave the Certificate field blank.
  6. Select Named Principal as the identity type.
  7. Select AWS Signature Version 4 as the authentication protocol.
  8. Enter the AWS access key ID created during AWS setup.
  9. Enter the AWS secret access key created during AWS setup.
  10. Enter the appropriate AWS region for Amazon Chime Meeting control from us-west-2, ap-southeast-1, eu-central-1, or us-east-1.
Choose the same region that the AWS admin chose when connecting AWS to Salesforce.
  11. Enter Amazon Chime as the AWS service.
  12. Ensure that the Generate Authorization Header is selected.
  13. Save your changes.
