Create a Decision Table for the Decision Table-Based Promotion Template

Create a Decision Table for the Decision Table-Based Promotion Template

Marketing managers use the Decision Table-Based Promotion template to configure a promotion rule from the conditions and rewards that a decision table defines. Before marketing managers can use the template, create a reference decision table that uses the Global Promotions Management usage type.

Required Editions

Available in: Lightning Experience
Available in: Enterprise, Unlimited, and Developer Editions with Real-Time Offer Management
User Permissions Needed
To create a decision table: Rule Engine Designer

Create the rule library that you want to associate with the decision table before you create the decision table. See Configure Rule Libraries for Promotion Context Definitions.

Important
Important If you use a custom profile, ensure that the View Setup and Configuration permission is enabled from the Setup menu so that you have access to decision tables.

This reference decision table only defines the columns that marketing managers see when they configure a promotion rule with the Decision Table-Based Promotion template. You don't add rule row data to this decision table. Marketing managers add the rule rows when they configure the promotion, either directly in the promotion's Reward Rules grid or by importing a CSV file.

  1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Decision Tables, and then select Decision Tables.
  2. Click New.
  3. Select Decision Table, and then click Next.
    The Basic Details page appears.
  4. Provide these details:
    Field Description
Name and API Name Enter the name of the decision table. The API name is auto-populated from the name that you enter.
Description Enter a meaningful description, such as the promotion or promotions that the decision table is intended for.
Application Usage Type Select Global Promotions Management. Only decision tables that use this usage type are available for marketing managers to select when they configure a promotion rule with the Decision Table-Based Promotion template.
Rule Library Select the rule library that you want to associate with the decision table. Marketing managers can select this decision table only for promotions that use the same rule library.
Decision Table Type Select Advanced. Only advanced decision tables support the CSV-based columns that the Decision Table-Based Promotion template requires.
  5. Select Create Decision Table, and then click Save & Next.
The Condition & Results page appears.
  6. Click the CSV tab.
  7. In the Conditions pane, add an input column for each condition that you want marketing managers to configure as a rule qualification criterion.
    1. Specify the column name and comparison operator.
The column name and comparison operator that you specify become the condition's column header and comparison operator in the promotion's Reward Rules grid.
    2. To add more input columns, click Add Condition.
  8. In the Results section, add an output column with a Number data type for each numeric reward value, such as a discount percentage or discount amount. When you use a decision table (DT) template, you can map only one output column to the promotion.
  9. Click Save & Next.
    The Behaviors page appears.
  10. From Filter Result By, select how you want the decision table to determine the output when a customer's cart matches more than one row.
  11. Click Save & Next.
The Preview & Save page appears.
  12. Review the decision table's columns, and then click Finish.
Important
Important Don't activate this decision table. Leave the decision table in Draft status. When a marketing manager saves a promotion that uses this decision table as its Decision Table-Based Promotion template, Global Promotions Management clones this decision table and activates the clone. The clone, not this reference decision table, is used at runtime to evaluate customer carts.

After the decision table is ready, share the decision table's name with the marketing managers who plan to use it for their promotions.
