          User-Created Attribute Management

          Manage attributes in Marketing Cloud Engagement choose data for creating and segmenting audiences. Available data includes raw data or unique values taken from the data model created in Contact Builder. For example, you can use attributes added via this tool to create and segment audiences using stored demographic and purchasing information.

          To create an attribute in Contact Builder: Manage Attributes Tool permission

          Make sure that you correctly configured your data relationships and loaded all applicable data in Contact Builder before you add the referenced data as attributes in Audience Builder.

          User-Created Attributes

          View, edit, and manage user-created attributes before you create or segment your audience.

          • Raw values—Enter the value you want to use for segmentation.
          • Unique values—Select from the provided values to use in segmentation.

          User-created attributes map Audience Builder information from Contact Builder for use in creating and segmenting audiences. Use information made available by relationships between attribute groups and sets. Changes in attributes and relationship information filters through automatically for use in creating and updating audiences.

          When managing user-created attributes, you can also choose to use certain attributes as appendable attributes. These appendable attributes make values available as personalization strings within messaging activities. For example, if you select City as an appendable attribute, you can include the home city of a contact within any messages you send. Audience Builder can only use information mapped in Contact Builder.

          Warning
          Warning If a 1:1 relationship changes to 1:Many in Contact Builder, this change breaks the appendable attribute and causes the audience to fail during its next publish. Ensure that you know how these relationships change your audiences before changing relationships in Contact Builder.

          Functionality

          Select and delete contact attributes used to create and segment audiences. Selecting an attribute also creates an activity in Automation Studio to refresh the associated data. Use the default automation unless you’re sure that another existing automation matches your refreshing needs. Deleting attributes from Audience Builder doesn’t remove the information from Contact Builder.

          Data Packages

          You can manage user-created attributes from dimension packages using this tool. All attributes show up without the nesting structure presented in the drill tree. These attributes also appear without the naming conventions presented in the dimension packages. Review the entire list of attributes to choose the correct attribute when creating and segmenting your audience.

          • Add User-Created Attribute
            Create attributes in Audience Builder to segment the messages that you send from Marketing Cloud Engagement. These attributes map information from Contact Builder.
          • Remove a User-Created Attribute
            Follow these steps to remove a user-created attribute in Audience Builder. This process only removes a user-created attribute from Audience Builder and does not delete information from Contact Builder.
