Create an Email Send Logging Data Extension

Follow these steps to create an email send logging data extension in Contact Builder.

  1. Click Data Extensions.
  2. Click Create.
  3. Choose the Create From Template option in the dropdown menu.
  4. Choose SendLog and click Done.
    Note
    Note Create only one send log per MID. If the value isn't populated, any required date field in the send log data extension that has an unpopulated value uses the current time of the send.
  5. Click Select.
  6. Enter the name, external key, and description for this data extension.
  7. Leave the checkbox next to Is Sendable? unchecked.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Enter any applicable data retention policy information and click Next.
    Note
    Note Data restriction is recommended as a best practice. Send logs grow large and can cause negative system performance.
  10. Create fields for list attributes or data extension fields to record in the send logging data extension. By default, the application adds these fields.
    • JobID
    • ListID
    • BatchID
    • SubID
    • TriggeredSendID
    • ErrorCode
  11. Click Complete.
