Build a Text Email Using Content Builder Tools

Use Email Studio Content Builder tools to build a text-email that displays as text only in your subscribers’ inbox, regardless of their display preferences. The open rate data is never reported for text-only emails.

1. Select Text Only as the email type.
2. Add your text in the editor window.
3. Use (Insert Attributes) to add personalization.
4. To display account headers and footers in your text-only email, add the {{> _header}} tag where you want the header to display and the {{> _footer}} tag where you want the footer to display. Use the add email tools control to add the required fields: Physical Mailing Address and Profile Center.

Note Edits to emails used in active journeys aren’t used in the journey until you update the activity. See Update an Email in a Running Journey.

Note Updates to one version of the email, either HTML or plain text, don’t affect the other version. Click Restore text from HTML to revert to text automatically generated by the HTML version.
