Create and Send an Inbox 2.0 Message
Use the Inbox 2.0 messages in MobilePush to deliver a persistent message with or without a CloudPage. This method creates an inbox message that includes a title, subtitle, message, and optional calls to action (CTA).
When working with Inbox 2.0 messages, keep these considerations in mind:
- Inbox 2.0 is compatible with SDK versions 9.0 and later. If the CTA is a CloudPage, the Inbox 2.0 message also offers a fallback option for devices running SDK versions earlier than 9.0.
- App inbox sending must be enabled via the MobilePush SDK. By default, an End Date is automatically set for 3 months. You can set the End date to a maximum of 1 year.
- If you copy an existing inbox message, be sure to update the End Date to reflect your desired message parameters.
- In MobilePush, click Create Message.
- Select the Inbox template, and then select Inbox 2.0.
- Enter a name for the message.
- Select the app to associate with the message.
-
Select the send method.
- Schedule—Send immediately or at a specified time.
- API Triggered—Send based on an external API call.
- Inbox - Automation—Send as part of an automation in Automation Studio.
- Interaction—Send as part of a journey.
-
Select the push method.
- Alert + Inbox—Send a push alert to the device and a message to the app inbox that directs the consumer to a mobile-optimized page. Each push alert consumes two MobilePush messages.
- Inbox Only—Send a message that directs the consumer to a mobile-optimized page to the app inbox.
-
Select or create the audience. To send only to contacts who meet certain criteria,
create a filtered list or create a data extension in Contact Builder.
- Contact List—Drag the selected contact lists to the Targeted and Excluded boxes on the right, and click Save.
-
Data Extension—Drag the selected data extensions to the Targeted
and Excluded boxes on the right, and click Save.
When a subscriber is listed in multiple targeted data extensions, personalization can be pulled from either data extension. The order in which the personalization is chosen can’t be guaranteed, and it can differ every time you send a message.
-
If you select Alert + Inbox as the method, create a push
notification.
- Enter the push alert title, subtitle, and message content. To personalize the content of the message, select contact attributes from the personalization dropdown menu.
-
Configure customizations for your message:
- Add media to your message.
- If you enabled Interactive Notifications, select which notifications to use.
- If you enabled Custom Keys for your app, enter the key values. To insert unique keys based on Contact attributes or campaigns, you can include an AMPscript value in the Custom Key text fields.
- To create your inbox message, enter the inbox subject line. Optionally, enter the subtitle and the message body.
-
If you select Inbox Only for the push method and CloudPage as
your CTA, choose a send option:
- Send same subject and CloudPage—Send the same inbox message to older SDK devices, requiring no extra setup.
- Send Only to New SDK Devices—The inbox message only goes to devices with SDK versions 9.0 and later. Devices with SDK versions 8.0 and earlier won't receive the notification.
- Send New Message—Create a separate message for devices with SDK versions 8.0 and earlier, with a different subject and CloudPage.
-
Select the call to action (CTA).
CloudPage Allows you to link the message directly to a CloudPage created within Marketing Cloud. App URL/ Web URL Allows you to redirect users to an external URL or another page within the app. None No further action is required. If you select App URL/ Web URL or None as your CTA, the message is delivered only to devices running SDK version 9.0 and later. - For a repeatable message type, such as Automation or Journey Builder, override an existing inbox message with each send by selecting Yes on Replace Inbox message. To add a message to the inbox with each send, select No.
- Specify how long the message remains in the app inbox.
- Schedule or send the message.
