MDP Re-process, Re-run, and Recreate Data Streams
When you make changes to data streams, for the changes to take effect, sometimes you must rerun some of your data or recreate your data stream. Other times, such as when the changes only apply to data going forward, all it takes is saving the data stream.
The Recreate & Rerun dialog appears whenever you make changes to existing data streams that affect data. It includes a built-in logic that can help you choose the correct option based on your needs: Recreate, Rerun, or Save. The relevant options appear based on the changes that you make to your data stream.
Save
Use Save whenever you apply minor changes that don’t require data reprocessing. For example, if you edit a data stream attribute, or if you add a data load rule that is only applied to new data.
Rerun
The Rerun option is available when dealing with data stream changes that don’t require data processing, such as standard mapping changes or applying load rules. This option has two possible scenarios.
If you want your changes to be applied to a portion of your existing data, choose Within a selected data range or Uploaded within a selected date range from the dropdown first (1). Then select the relevant date range from the date picker (2), and click Rerun (3).
If you choose this option, your changes apply to the selected data and any data processed going forward.
If you want the changes to apply to all the data in the data stream, choose Apply to all existing data (1), and then click Rerun (2). If you choose this option, your changes apply to all existing data in the data stream and any data processed going forward.
Recreate
The Recreate option is used after you make critical changes to your data stream where recreation is inevitable.
These changes can be split into two groups:
- Changes in the mapping of the keys, such as the media buy key and a campaign key, or the day field of a data stream — These mapping changes allow you to save the data stream and only apply them to data going forward, or to apply the changes to existing data, you can recreate the data stream.
- Data stream type change, adding a stream to a parent-child pool, adding a transformer or changing a dimensions-only stream to a stream with measurements — These changes only allow you to recreate the data stream without the option to save it.
When you recreate a data stream, you have two options. The first option is to only apply the changes you made to a portion of your existing data within a selected date range and any data going forward, similar to the Rerun option.
The second option is to recreate the data stream along with all the data it contains. In this case, all changes apply to all existing data and any data processed going forward.
