Dedicated IP Pools, Requirements, and Status

A request that has missing or unknown values can delay provisioning. Confirm eligibility before a request is submitted, understand how Marketing Cloud Next allocates IPs and routes sends, and check provisioning status in Setup.

Requirements for Requesting a Dedicated IP

A request that has missing or unknown values can delay provisioning. As a Marketer, you need to confirm these conditions before a request is submitted.

  • A dedicated IP request can be processed only for a fully implemented org.
  • The account has validated DNS for at least one email sending domain.

You can access Authenticated Domain setup pages here in Salesforce Setup | Authenticated Domain.

  • Understand the preferred IP model and transition. Then determine whether you require the Salesforce-managed provisioning model or the Customer-managed provisioning model. See Salesforce-Managed Provisioning and Customer-Managed Provisioning.

After Salesforce receives a complete, eligible request, provisioning typically takes 5–10 business days.

IP Pools, IP Send Limits, Assignments, and Automatic Routing

Understand how Marketing Cloud Next manages IP pools, send limits, assignments, and automatic routing across domains and pools.

  • Four IPs are allocated: two for promotional traffic and two for transactional traffic.
  • Each IP supports a maximum of 2 million sends per day. Higher daily volume requires additional IPs.
  • IPs and pools are assigned at the org level and not as per the domain or brand.
  • A send can’t be configured to a specific domain irrespective of whether one or more domains are configured. Marketing Cloud Next automatically routes sends across IPs and domains in the shared and dedicated pools.
  • Depending on the message purpose configured on the send, sends are routed to the corresponding pool.

For more information on how to set the message purpose, see Create an Email in Marketing Cloud Next.

Check Provisioning Status

To see where an account is in the move from shared to dedicated IPs, go to Salesforce Setup | Sending IP Address.

The page reflects the transition model in progress. The IP Management Type field shows which path the account is on, and each row's status shows its current state. What appears depends on whether the account uses a gradual or an immediate transition.

  • 30-day gradual transition

    • IP Management Type: Transition
    • The newly provisioned dedicated IP appears as In-Process, while the shared row remains Active and continues serving traffic. After 30 days, the shared row drops off and the dedicated IP changes to Active. The dedicated IPs then serve all traffic.
  • Immediate transition

    • IP Management Type: Dedicated
    • The dedicated IPs appear as Active from day one. No shared row appears, and the dedicated IPs serve all traffic immediately.
