Enable Common Assets for Business Units

Enable Common Assets for Business Units

Common Assets is a library that makes content available to all business units. Enable Common Assets to let business unit members copy content from their workspaces and post it to common assets. Any other business unit can then copy and use that content in their own workspaces. By default, the common assets feature for customers who purchase Marketing Cloud Next in Summer ’26 is enabled in new orgs.

          Required Editions

Available in: Salesforce Enterprise and Unlimited Editions with Marketing Cloud Next Advanced Edition
          User Permissions Needed
To enable Common Assets: Marketing Cloud Admin permission set

Consider these points before enabling common assets:

          • You can't restrict access to common assets to specific business units. Any business unit member can view and copy content from common assets.
          • When content is posted to common assets, merge fields are converted to placeholders. Before you can publish content with placeholder merge fields, resolve all merge fields with the correct data sources.
          • Only marketing admins and the user who posted the content can delete a common asset.
          • Content posted from an inactive business unit shows an "Inactive" badge in common assets. You can still copy this content to CMS workspaces of active business units.
          1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Business Units and select Business Unit Settings.
          2. In the Common Assets section, click Enable.
This action creates the Common Assets tab in the Marketing app.
