Add an Objective-Based Recommender to a Marketing Email

Add an Objective-Based Recommender to a Marketing Email

Instead of writing rules to decide which image each contact sees, let a recommender choose the best image for each contact at send time. The recommender is powered by Salesforce Personalization and improves over time as it learns from engagement.

Before adding recommender fields, make sure your objective-based recommender is connected and your data graph is configured. The data graph determines which recommender attributes are available as merge fields.

Add Recommender Fields to an Image Block

  1. Navigate to the data sources panel and add your objective-based recommender as a data source.
  2. In the email you're building, select the image block where you want to apply recommender fields.
  3. In the block settings, select Merge Field as image source.
  4. Under source, select Personalization Recommendation Data Provider.
  5. Select Recommended Items, then choose the specific fields or attributes you want to display, and configure the merge field details. Optionally, configure additional attributes such as caption or URL.
  6. Save the configuration. The recommender attributes are visible when you preview the email.

Preview Recommender Content

The recommender chooses content per contact so the design canvas shows a placeholder rather than a single fixed result.

  1. Open Preview.
  2. Enter parameters such as a segment to simulate a contact context.
  3. Review the content the recommender returns for that context.
