Create a Custom Objective for Offers

Create a Custom Objective for Offers

Using indirect engagement signals, create custom objectives for offers in objective-based recommenders. This objective trains the machine learning model to deliver relevant, personalized offers that drive your business goals. To do this, the model links promotional offers to downstream conversions, such as product purchases.

To configure recommenders: Change and Edit Recommenders

Custom objectives with indirect signals differ from standard objectives. Make sure you meet these requirements.

  • When you configure the engagement signal metric for the objective, provide the offer as the item identifier.
  • Configure the Profile Data Graph to include both the indirect item (for example, offer) and direct item (for example, product or form).
  • Configure the conversion event ingested into Data 360 from SDK or a data stream to track the specific offer applied during the conversion. If an offer has a many-to-one (N:1) relationship with a promotion, identify the promotion in the conversion event instead of the offer.
  1. Complete steps 1 through 4 in Create a Custom Objective.
  2. Select an engagement signal metric that identifies the promotion or offer as the item identifier.
This item identifier must match the identifier that you plan to include with your conversion event. For example, see Example: Product Order with Offer.
  3. Click Next
  4. Select additional engagement signals to train the machine learning model.
For these additional signals, use the direct conversion item, such as the purchased product, as the item identifier.
  5. Click Next.
  6. (Optional) Add filters.
You can add filters to a recommender at any time. See Add Recommendation Filters.
  7. Save the recommender.
