B2C referral promotions can be targeted either towards your entire customer base or
towards specific customer groups. Before you use the B2C Referral Promotion guided flow to
design a promotion, decide the promotion’s target audience. If you want to target a specific
customer group, you can filter the target audience by using a Data 360 segment or a
campaign.

Find Out The Customers Who Are Most Likely to Refer Their Friends
Before you filter your audience, use the Customer Likelihood to
Referring dashboard to find out the customers who are most likely to refer their
friends. The dashboard scores customers on their probability to refer and provides
demographic insights on the probability to refer.
Segment Target Audience by Using Data 360 Segment
You can segment on contacts in your org in Data 360. With Data 360, you can segment the contacts by using the data available in
your org and by using the data from external sources. If your company uses Marketing Cloud
Next as the promotion communication method, you must select Data 360
segments as the target audience for promotions.
Before you create a promotion that’s targeted towards a segment, ensure that the segment’s
status is Active.

Segment Target Audience by Using Campaign
You can also filter your promotion’s target audience by using campaigns. In a campaign, add
the contacts who you want to include as the promotion’s target audience.
Important To create a campaign to filter contacts, ask your admin to select the
Marketing User permission in your User record.
What Happens if the Target Audience is Filtered Outside Salesforce
You can create a campaign and then work with your admin to:
Map the filtered target audience to the contacts in the org
Add the filtered contacts as members by using reports or the Data Import Wizard
What Happens After Segments or Campaigns are Created
After you create segments or campaigns, you can select a segment or campaign members as a
promotion’s target audience in the Rewards and Limits step of the Referral Promotion Guided
Setup.
