SMS Code Provisioning Guidelines

Use a custom alphanumeric code with an international long code set up for one-way sending. Manage opt-outs with a web link or customer preference center. Alphanumeric codes must be associated with the brand, enterprise, product, or service. These codes can include only alphanumeric characters or spaces. Codes that don't provide traffic for three months are blocked and require that you reregister the code.

International enterprises must provide a sender ID registration form and a letter of appointment to request their alphanumeric code. Domestic enterprises must provide 5 letters of appointment, a copy of the company's tax ID, a copy of the company's business registration number, a screenshot and URL of the subscriber opt-in webpage, and copies of any trademark certificates that have beenvalid for at least one month. Financial services companies must also include a copy of their operating license from the Ototitas Jasa Keuangan (OJK), the Indonesian financial services authority. Print all letters on corporate letterhead, then sign, date, and rubber-stamp the copies.

Restricted Content

You’re responsible for complying with local rules and regulations. To ensure compliance, familiarize yourself with the legislation of the local market. Failure to comply can result in service suspension, cancellation, and potential fines. Indonesia forbids SMS communications related, but not limited to, this content, products, and services:

  • Adult
  • Alcohol
  • Drugs
  • Gambling
  • Politics
  • Religion

Best Practices and Compliance References

Telecommunications in Indonesia are regulated by Kementerian Komunikasi dan Informatika Republik Indonesia (Ministry of Communication and Information Technology). Consider using separate alphanumeric codes for marketing and transactional sends.
