SMS Code Provisioning Guidelines
When sending one-way messages, use an alphanumeric code for Peru's private short code owners, and a Peru short code for two-way messaging. Alphanumeric code registration is reserved for local enterprises only, meaning businesses with headquarters in Peru. Local carriers must approve all alphanumeric code requests before deploying SMS messages.
Alphanumeric codes can't be generic. They must be associated with a brand, enterprise, product, or service. These codes can only use alphanumeric characters and spaces, with a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 11 characters.
Provide program details upfront to obtain dedicated two-way short code services. Carriers require at least 300,000 monthly messages to keep a short code active.
Restricted Content
You’re responsible for complying with local rules and regulations. To ensure compliance, familiarize yourself with the legislation of the local market. Peru generally forbids content related, but not limited to, adult and gambling products and services.
Best Practices and Compliance References
Consider using different alphanumeric codes for marketing and transactional messaging. Telecommunications in Peru are regulated by the Organismo Supervisor de Inversión Privada en Telecomunicaciones (OSIPTEL) and the Ministerio de Transportes y Comunicaciones (MTC).
