Set Up SMS for Italy
You can set up one-way sending or two-way sending for Italy. For one-way sending, set up an alphanumeric code either for your own brand or for other brands. For two-way sending, set up a long code. It can take up to 7 business days for the Autorità per le Garanzie nelle Comunicazioni (AGCOM) to approve a code request. After your request is approved, you’re added as a verified sender.

Before You Begin
Before you set up SMS sending in Italy, review the Guide for Sending SMS in Italy.
Make sure that these requirements are met.
- Your brand name must be between 2 to 11 characters and not begin or end with a space or a slash (/).
- If your company is situated in Italy, you must have a Codice Fiscale (Italian tax code number). Otherwise, you must have an international VAT number.
Before you start the setup, complete these forms.
Complete the Italy New Codes Registration Document to Request Codes in Bulk
To request multiple codes, use the Italy new codes registration document.
- Download the Italy New Codes Registration document.

Complete the document.
- Alias (Sender ID): The alphanumeric code of the brand. This is case-sensitive.
- Company Name: The official name of the brand company.
- Use case: The reason for the code request.
- Company's HQ Country: The country where the brand company is located.
- Tax Number (VAT): The VAT number of the brand company.
- Fiscal code: The local tax identification number of the brand company. If the brand company doesn't have a Fiscal code, use the VAT number.
- Certified email:
- Posta Elettronica Certificata (PEC) email address for a local brand company.
- Official corporate email address for an international brand company.
- Company address: The official address of the brand company.
- Company Contact: Email address or phone number of the authorized contact for the brand company.
Request an Alphanumeric Code for Your Own Brand
To use your brand name as the sender name in messages, request an alphanumeric code.
- From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter SMS, and then select SMS Codes.
- Click Request Code.

Define the country and code type.
- For country, select Italy.
- For code type, select Pre-registered Alpha.
- Select the quantity of alphanumeric codes that you need, and click Next.
- Select Brand owner, and click Next.
- Review the code request overview screen, and click Next.
- Enter the alphanumeric code that you want to register.

Select the type of marketing content that you intend to send, and click
Next.

- Enter the contact information of the authorized person from your company, and click Next.
- Enter your company information, and click Next.
- Upload the completed letter of authorization form.
- Submit your request.
Request an Alphanumeric Code on Behalf of Other Brands
To set other brands as the sender name in messages, request an alphanumeric code.
- From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter SMS, and then select SMS Codes.
- Click Request Code.

Define the country and code type.
- For country, select Italy.
- For code type, select Pre-registered Alpha.
- Select the quantity of alphanumeric codes and click Next.
- Select Enterprise/Agent/Service provider.
- Select No to request codes through this setup.
- Select Yes to confirm that you previously submitted the letter of authorization, and click Next.
- Review the code request overview screen, and click Next.
- Enter the alphanumeric code.

Select the type of marketing content that you intend to send.

- Confirm that you’re authorized to send SMS for this brand, and click Next.
- Enter the official name of the authorized person from your company.
- Enter how your company represents the brand company.
- Upload the completed letter of authorization form and Italy new codes registration document.
- Submit your request.
Request a Long Code
To communicate with your customers by using a dedicated phone number, request a long code.
- From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter SMS, and then select SMS Codes.
- Click Request Code.

Define the country and code type.
- For country, select Italy.
- For the code type, select Long Code.
- Select the quantity of codes, and click Next.
- Review the code request overview screen, and click Next.

Enter how your company represents the brand company, and click
Next.
For example: I am sending order confirmations. I need to provide 2-way support for customers. During customer registration opt-in is collected. The frequency of messages per month is 2 to 3.
- Enter your email address and phone number, and click Next.
- Enter your company name, and click Next.
- Submit your request.
You're notified via email about the status of your request. You can view the status of the request in the SMS Codes tab.
- New: The submitted request is received but not yet processed.
- Pending or Under-Verification: The submitted request is being verified.
- Waiting For Customer: The submitted request needs additional information. To check and correct the errors, see the automated email notification.
- Completed: The submitted request is verified and accepted.
