Re-Register a WhatsApp Phone Number
If your WhatsApp display name is updated, a business account lock is lifted, or a channel is in an unexpected broken state, you can re-register your WhatsApp phone number with Meta to fix it. When you click Refresh Connection, Salesforce calls the Meta API on the already-registered number. We also ensure that the channel is aligned and correct any missing information.
When to Re-Register Your Phone Number
Use this feature in the following scenarios:
- Your WhatsApp display name is approved and you need the change to take effect on the channel.
- Your WhatsApp Business account is locked and has since been unlocked by Meta.
- Your channel is in an unexpected or broken state and standard troubleshooting has not resolved it.
Considerations for Re-Registering Your Phone Number
- Meta enforces a limit of 10 calls per phone number within any 72-hour window. If this limit is exceeded, Meta blocks further registration attempts for that number until the window resets. Avoid clicking Refresh Connection repeatedly in a short period of time.
- A verification code is not required. Unlike initial registration, re-registration does not require a new phone verification code, as long as the number is in a connected state.
- Clicking Refresh Connection does not interrupt or drop any conversations that are currently in progress on the channel.
- If you recently updated your WhatsApp display name and it has been approved by Meta, use Refresh Connection to apply the change to your channel. The register call is only made if the new name status is Approved and the channel is active.
Re-Register Your Phone Number
Use the Refresh Connection button to re-register your Unified WhatsApp phone number.
- In Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Numbers, and then select Your Numbers.
- Select the Messaging Platform Key for the number that you want to re-register.
- Click Refresh Connection.
- In the confirmation dialog, review the message and click Refresh Connection.
- A success message confirms that the connection has been refreshed. The process takes a few minutes.
