Search for Records and Attachments in Salesforce Backups
Search your Salesforce backup history and easily retrieve any record or attachment using Find. Find helps you comply with regulations and initiate a restore job from the results found.
Search for Records in Backups
- Open Find.
- Enter the Search term.
- From the Type dropdown list, select Records.

From the Service dropdown list, select the backup service to search in.
The backup services are split into:
- Active:
- Services where the last backup attempt succeeded.
- Services where the last backup attempt succeeded, but some records or attachments failed to back up.
- Inactive:
- Services where the last backup attempt failed.
- Services that are archived.
Note Services can have a backup in progress. The results of recent changes from the last backup are not available for Find until the backup is completed. - Active:

(Optional) Select specific objects to search in.
- Select objects from the dropdown list. If you are searching for a single object with one of its child file objects, you can add the object and the related file object. If you enable find and download of all related files, then the child file object will also be displayed and available to download in the results page.
- Recommended: Click the filter icon to further narrow the search by building a filter. This results in a more specific search which leads to a significantly shorter job completion time.
- Select from the dropdown list. The dropdown list is populated from your chosen Specific objects.
- Click on Filter.
- Select a Field from the dropdown list.
- Select an Operator from the dropdown list.
- Select a Value from the dropdown list.

Conditional logic operators filter by only returning data that meet specific criteria,
resulting in a more focused and relevant outcome. The following logic operators are
available:
- AND: At the end of the line click +.
- OR: On the next line click Add OR.
Repeat until you have finished building the filter. -
Save the completed filter.
A filter icon with green dot indicates an active filter.

(Optional) Select All objects to search across all objects.Warning Choose All objects If you do not know which objects to search. However, this will slow down the search due to the large volume of data.

Select the Backups to search in:
Tip We recommend specifying the exact backup or range to reduce the search time. Please choose according to your use case and the required time to respond.
- Single Backup: Searches within a single backup. Yields the fastest results.
- Backup Range: Searches all backups in the selected range.
- All Backups: Searches the entire backup history.
Warning All Backups will significantly increase the job time and can take many hours to complete as your entire history of backups is searched. - To assess for damage by finding a value that may have existed on the record that is being tracked, and to work out who or what made that change, check Search in History, Feed and Share tables. This will slow down the search.

Click Find to initiate the Find job according to your set parameters. You are redirected
to the Jobs page, where you can access the information about your running and completed
jobs.
Note Jobs are retained for 30 days following their completion, before they are deleted.

From the completed Find Job, click the three dots to the right of any row and take the
following actions on that record.
- Preview Restore: This starts a Restore job for that record and places it in a pause state, allowing you to review the data before it is written to your Salesforce org.
- Forget Record: Allows you to comply with GDPR Forget Record requests within your backed-up data.
- Rectify Record: Allows you to comply with GDPR Rectify Record requests within your backed-up data.
Search for Attachments in Backups
- Open Find.
- Enter the Search term.
- From the Type dropdown list, select Attachments.

From the Service dropdown list, select the backup service to search in.
The backup services are split into:
- Active:
- Services where the last backup attempt succeeded.
- Services where the last backup attempt succeeded, but some records or attachments failed to back up.
- Inactive:
- Services where the last backup attempt failed.
- Services that are archived.
Note Services can have a backup in progress. The results of recent changes from the last backup are not available for Find until the backup is completed. - Active:

Click Find to initiate the Find job according to your set parameters.
You are redirected to the Jobs page, where you can access the information about your running and completed jobs.
Download Find Results
You can download the results of your Find job on the results page.
- Click Download from the top right of the results page. Select whether to download All latest for the latest backup of each result or All versions for all versions of each result.
- Extract the downloaded file. All the files will be included in the same folder. Nested in that folder are folders for each object and with a folder for each record.
