You are here:
Abort a Running ServiceNow Backup
Stop a running backup in ServiceNow to fix an error in production data, modify default backup options, or if the backup process slows down other critical jobs.
-
When a backup is running on a service (scheduled backup or on demand backup), the Abort
Backup button appears top left in all menu tabs. Click the Abort Backup button.
A confirmation dialog box will appear, prompting confirmation.
-
In the Reason drop down list, select a reason to abort the backup. Choosing a reason is
mandatory. There are three common options in the Reason drop down list:
- Planned production changes
- Configuration changes to backup options
- Prioritization of other activities
- Other
If you choose Other, you must add a comment in the Comment text box. This comment will appear in the Auditing log (any reason selected from the list will appear in the Auditing log). To view the Auditing log, navigate to Account Settings | Auditing tab.
-
Click Abort.
- A confirmation dialogue appears at the bottom of the screen. All the menu tabs for this service show the backup has been aborted.
- The Dashboard tab shows the backup has been aborted and isn’t available (empty circle icon), while the status of the service is Warning.
- In the Backup History tab, you can view a list of the backups performed recently. The aborted backup will have a red label (“Aborted”).
- An email will be sent to all the users of this account, informing them that a backup has been manually aborted.
If you aborted a backup, then later on that day you will need to perform an on demand backup. This is required in order to capture any changes made that may have been missed due to the aborted backup.
