How Jira Integration Works
The Jira integration connects planning work in Jira with development work in Lifecycle Center. You can import one or more Jira work items into a Lifecycle Center project. For each imported Jira work item, Lifecycle Center creates a work item and stores the Jira work item key and URL for reference.
Imported information is a snapshot. Later changes in Jira don't update the Lifecycle Center work item, and changes in Lifecycle Center, including status changes, don't update Jira.
After import, maintain the Lifecycle Center work item separately so that its information remains current.
Information Imported from Jira Work Items
Lifecycle Center copies selected information from each Jira work item into a Lifecycle Center work item.
| Lifecycle Center Work Item Field | Populated From |
|---|---|
| Subject | Jira work item summary |
| Description | Jira work item description |
| Assignee | Selected in Lifecycle Center. The Jira assignee isn't imported. |
| Status | Defaults to New. Jira status values aren't imported or mapped. The new work item always starts in New status regardless of the Jira item's status. |
Other custom work item fields, such as Priority, Labels, Sprint, and Reporter, aren't imported.
Jira projects and work items can use custom status values that don't correspond to Lifecycle Center statuses. Lifecycle Center imports Jira work items in any status, including custom statuses such as Backlog or Pending Approval. Use the project filter or search to narrow results.
Considerations for Imported Work Items
- Imported information is a snapshot and isn't synced after import. If a Jira work item's summary, description, or assignee changes, manually update the matching fields in the Lifecycle Center work item, or never the Lifecycle Center work item and re-import it to bring in the current summary and description. The new Lifecycle Center work item status always starts at New, and re-importing doesn't change that.
- You can import a Jira work item into multiple Lifecycle Center projects. Each import creates an independent Lifecycle Center work item.
- Jira and Lifecycle Center projects are independent and don't require a one-to-one mapping.
- To exclude previously imported Jira work items from results, select Hide Previously Imported Work Items. You can also review the Imported column.
- You can edit the Jira work item reference regardless of the Lifecycle Center work item status.
- The integration supports the import of these Jira work types: Epic, Task, Story, Bug, and Sub-task.
- Your org can be connected to only one Jira workspace at a time. To remove the connection, on the Lifecycle Center Home tab, click Manage Features. In the Jira Integration section, click the dropdown icon next to Connected, and select Remove Connection.
