Create and Assign Advanced Routing Profiles in Maps

Create and Assign Advanced Routing Profiles in Maps

Your users receive the same Advanced Routing weights when you assign one routing profile on their Maps permission group. Start from a built-in preset, or create a custom profile before you assign it.

To assign a routing profile: Customize Application

Turn on Advanced Routing before you assign a profile. The Routing Profile option on a permission group appears when Advanced Routing is turned on. Have a Maps permission group ready for the users who receive the profile. If these users don't share a group, then create a permission group first. Before you select constraint weights, see How Advanced Routing Profiles Work in Salesforce Maps.

You assign a routing profile on a Maps permission group, not to each user. A Maps permission group is a Salesforce Maps setting, not a Salesforce permission set.

  1. If you need a custom mix of constraint weights, create a routing profile.
If a built-in preset matches the job, skip this step and assign that preset on the permission group. The built-in presets are Default, Efficient Travel Without Priorities, and Cadence Focused.
    1. From Salesforce Maps Settings, go to Advanced Routing | Routing Profiles, and then click New Routing Profile.
    2. Enter a name and optionally enter a description of what the profile accomplishes.
The name is required and can be up to 80 characters. The description can be up to 255 characters.
    3. Set each constraint weight and save your changes.
To start from a built-in preset, select the preset first. Set each constraint to Low, Medium, or High. Optional constraints also include Not Used. See How Advanced Routing Profiles Work in Salesforce Maps for the meaning of each constraint and preset.
  2. From Salesforce Maps Settings, go to Permission Groups.
  3. Select the Maps permission group for the users who receive this routing profile.
  4. In the Route & Schedule section, select a routing profile from the Routing Profile dropdown menu.
The list includes the three built-in presets and any custom profiles that you created.
  5. Save your changes.
  6. Add users to the permission group by user or by Salesforce profile.
An assignment by user applies the routing profile to that user. An assignment by Salesforce profile applies the routing profile to every user who has that profile.
When Advanced Routing generates a route, it uses the routing profile from the Maps permission group assigned to the user who owns the generated route.
Example
Example

After you assign Cadence Focused on the permission group for your field service reps, generated routes for those users use that preset's constraint weights. After you assign a custom profile with Priority set to High on the permission group for your new-business sales reps, generated routes for those users favor high-priority accounts.

Each Maps permission group references only one routing profile. If teams need different optimization behavior, use a separate permission group for each team. On a small permission group, compare routes from the new profile with routes from the previous profile before you assign the new profile more broadly.
