Create a Module in Trailmaker Content

A module can stand alone or be a part of a trail. When you’re ready to create a module and its units, move the final draft of your content from a word processor into Trailmaker Content.

To create and edit content with Trailmaker Content: Create Content
  1. In the Trailmaker Content workspace, click Add Content, and select New Module.
  2. Enter the module’s details.

    1. To add badge art, click the icon field (1). Upload an image file or enter a URL to an image file on a content delivery network.
      Note
      Note Use a PNG file smaller than 10 MB. The ideal size for badge art is 200 × 200 pixels. See Guidelines for Images, Screenshots, Badge Art, and Trail Icons.
    2. Enter a module title (2).
    3. Accept the suggested API name (3), or enter a unique name that you want to use instead.

      • A module’s API name is used in URLs, so the API name is visible to learners.
      • Each module API name must be globally unique.
    4. Enter a brief description for the module (4).
    5. Select the module’s applicable filters (5).
      • One or more user roles for the module’s target audience
      • The experience level for the module’s target audience
      • The product tags that apply to the module
  3. To add a unit to the module, click New Unit, and enter your unit’s details.

    1. Enter a unit title (1).
    2. Accept the suggested API name (2), or enter a unique name that you want to use instead.

      • A unit’s API name is used in URLs, so the API name is visible to learners.
      • Each unit API name must be globally unique.
    3. For Points (3), enter the number of points that a learner earns by completing the unit’s quiz.
      Note
      Note Effective September 2021, all points are automatically assigned to the General tag, and you can’t allocate points to different tags.
    4. For Time (4), enter your estimate for how many minutes it takes to complete the unit and quiz.
    5. To add the unit’s content, use the field below the formatting toolbar (5).
      Tip
      Tip We recommend that you paste only the unit’s text first, and then use the options on the formatting toolbar to insert images and videos.
    6. To add the unit’s quiz, click New Assessment (6). For help with quizzes, see Create Quizzes in Trailmaker Content.
    7. To add another unit, click the back icon Back arrow (7) to return to the module page, click New Unit, and repeat these steps.
  4. Optionally, preview the module and its units by completing the steps in Preview a Module in Trailmaker Content.

If you’re collaborating with other content creators on the module before you’re ready to publish it, download the module’s backpack, and submit it to your company’s version control system (VCS). Then, delete the module from your local workspace. When your collaborator is finished, you can import the most recent version of the module’s backpack.

If you’re ready, a user with the Manage Releases permission can add the module to an unpublished release.
