Validate Your Salesforce Maps Deployment

Run end-to-end checks before you go live to confirm that Salesforce Maps features work correctly.

Admin Pre-Launch Checklist

Complete each validation step before you go live.

  1. Verify access. Confirm that a licensed test user can open Salesforce Maps.
    • Confirm that the test user has the correct permission set license.
    • Confirm that you assigned the corresponding permission set.
    • Confirm that the user is in a permission group.
    • Confirm that Maps and Location Services is on.
    • Confirm that Salesforce Maps loads without errors.
  2. Confirm plotting. Confirm that records from a configured base object appear on the map.
    • Confirm that you configured at least one base object.
    • Confirm that address and coordinate fields map correctly.
    • Confirm that records have geocodes.
    • Confirm that markers appear in the expected geographic locations.
    • Confirm that record details appear when you click a marker.
  3. Verify layers. Confirm that a Corporate marker layer and a shape layer load.
    • Confirm that the Corporate marker layer is visible to test users.
    • Confirm that marker layer filters apply correctly.
    • Confirm that the shape layer renders with the correct boundaries.
    • Confirm that layer styling, such as colors and icons, appears as you configured it.
    • Confirm that users can turn layers on and off.
  4. Test features. Test Click2Create and Check In and Check Out.

    Click2Create:

    • Confirm that the Click2Create button appears in the button set.
    • Confirm that the field set includes the required fields.
    • Create a Lead or Account from the map.
    • Confirm that the record includes the correct data.

    Check In and Check Out:

    • Confirm that the Check In button appears for configured base objects.
    • Confirm that custom disposition prompts appear correctly, if you configured them.
    • Confirm that Salesforce logs a task, event, or Chatter post as you configured it.
    • Confirm that Check Out creates a second activity, if you configured it.
  5. Verify routing. Confirm that a route builds, adds stops with mass actions, and optimizes with drive time and mileage.
    • Create a route.
    • Add stops using Mass Actions from plotted markers.
    • Click Optimize, and confirm that the route shows the optimized sequence.
    • Confirm that drive time and mileage calculations appear.
    • Save the route.
    • Confirm that you can reopen the saved route.
  6. Confirm security. Confirm that routing role security behaves as intended and that debug logs are off.
    • If you select routing role security, confirm that users see only the routes in their role hierarchy.
    • If you leave routing role security cleared, confirm that users can see all routes.
    • Confirm that Debug Logs is cleared, unless you are troubleshooting with Support.
    • Test folder permissions for Corporate and Personal layers.

End-User Validation Checklist

Have pilot users test core workflows.

  1. Verify login and access. Confirm that the end user can log in and open Salesforce Maps.
    • Confirm that Salesforce Maps appears in the App Launcher or navigation menu.
    • Confirm that Salesforce Maps loads without permission errors.
    • Confirm that all configured buttons are visible.
  2. Plot assigned accounts. Confirm that the user can plot their assigned accounts.
    • Confirm that the user can select and plot a marker layer.
    • Confirm that markers appear in the expected area.
    • Confirm that record counts match expectations.
  3. Build a route. Confirm that the user can create and optimize a route for the day.
    • Confirm that the user can add stops to a route.
    • Confirm that the Optimize button works.
    • Confirm that the route appears with turn-by-turn directions.
    • Confirm that the user can save the route.
  4. Log activity. Confirm that the user can check in at a customer location.
    • Confirm that the Check In button appears.
    • Confirm that the disposition form prompts for required fields, if you configured it.
    • Confirm that Salesforce logs the activity to the record.
    • Confirm that the user receives confirmation.
  5. Search for locations and records. Confirm that the user can find locations and records.
    • Confirm that the search bar returns points of interest.
    • Confirm that search returns records.
    • Confirm that search results open the location on the map.
  6. Test Maps on a mobile device, if you use mobile. Confirm that the user can access core features on a mobile device.
    • Confirm that the Salesforce mobile app is installed and that the user can open Maps Mobile from it.
    • Confirm that layers appear on the mobile device.
    • Confirm that Check In works from the mobile device.
    • Confirm that the current location appears correctly.
