Configure Workato in a Salesforce Spiff Sandbox

Configure Workato in a Salesforce Spiff sandbox to test data integrations before deploying changes to production. The sandbox uses your production company's Workato account, so you can copy and reuse existing recipes and connections without re-creating them from scratch.

To configure Workato in a sandbox:

Workato access

A Spiff user role with these permissions turned on.

  • Connectors: Edit
  • Data Sources: Sync
Important
Important To use Workato in a sandbox, your organization must have purchased the Spiff connector in Workato and completed the initial Workato setup in your production environment. See Set Up a Third-Party Connector in Salesforce Spiff.

The Workato experience in a sandbox is identical to production. These settings are read-only in a sandbox to protect your production configuration: the notification email address and time zone on the Webhook Settings page, and the Workato user checkbox on user profile pages.

Important
Important Adding a Workato connection for a sandbox counts against the connector limit in your Workato contract and can result in additional costs. Contact your Salesforce account executive to review your contract before getting started.

Create a Webhook in Your Sandbox

Create a sandbox-specific webhook to generate the credentials that Workato uses to connect to your sandbox. Complete this task before you access Workato from the sandbox.

  1. Switch to your sandbox environment.
  2. From Admin, select Settings.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the left navigation panel and select Webhook Settings.
  4. Click Add Webhook.
  5. Copy the webhook ID and secret from the confirmation window.

The webhook ID and secret are the credentials used to set up the sandbox Spiff connection in Workato. If you close the confirmation window without copying these values, you can't recover them—you can only generate new tokens. See Refresh Webhook Tokens in Salesforce Spiff.

Access and Configure Workato from Your Sandbox

Open Workato from your sandbox, add a sandbox-specific Spiff connection, and copy recipes from your production workspace to use in the sandbox.

Important Complete these steps as a user with access to Workato, and make sure that you have already created a webhook in the sandbox.
  1. In your sandbox environment, from Admin, select Connectors and click Data Automation.
    The Workato window opens. A warning banner indicates that you're working in a sandbox and that configuration changes can affect your production environment.
  2. Review the warning banner and confirm that you want to proceed.
  3. Add a Spiff connection using your sandbox credentials.
    1. Go to Projects | Connections.
    2. Search for Spiff and add the Spiff connection.
    3. Enter the webhook ID and secret that you copied when you created the webhook in your sandbox.
    4. Update the subdomain for your region.
      • If you're in the US, use us1.
      • If you're in the EU, use eu1.
  4. Copy recipes from your production workspace and configure them to use the new sandbox connection.
    1. Go to Data Automation | Recipes.
    2. Copy the recipes that you want to use in the sandbox.
    3. In each copied recipe, update the Spiff connection to use the sandbox connection you created.
