Plan Long-Cycle Work in the Scheduling Console
Use long-term Gantt views to plan long-cycle work across weeks and months. You can balance regional workloads, see true availability, and manage appointments that span an extended horizon.

This is a Field Service managed package feature.
Long-term Gantt views help dispatchers plan multi-day or multi-month projects in a single view to balance regional workloads and monitor true capacity.
Available Views
The Gantt provides six default views in a fixed order.
- 1 day
- 2 days
- 3 days
- 1 week
- 2 weeks
- 1 month
To plan longer horizons, you can add up to three custom views, such as 3 months, 6 months, or 12 months. To change the view, select the view control in the Gantt header, and then select a view. [SME: confirm the exact name and location of the view control in the Gantt header.]
Create and Manage Custom Views
Create custom views to land on the horizon you use most and switch quickly between your most-used horizons.
- Under Settings, open the Gantt view settings and add a custom view. Give the view a name and select a duration. You can add up to three custom views.
- Mark a view as your default. When you open the Scheduling Console, your default view loads first.
- Reorder your views. The order is saved per user.
Read the Gantt at Long Horizons
The Gantt ruler adapts to the active horizon so that you can read time at the right granularity.
- Views shorter than 2 weeks show individual days.
- Views from 2 weeks to 1-month show weeks, with day sub-ticks.
- Views of 3 months or longer show the first day of each month. Click a month to drill down to weeks and days.
To distinguish non-working days, turn on Highlight Weekends in the Gantt settings. Weekend days follow the org or user locale, so the highlighted days match where the weekend isn't Saturday and Sunday.
To show ISO week numbers on the Gantt ruler, turn on the week numbers setting. Week numbers respect your locale's week-start convention.
Navigate Long Horizons
Move through months of schedule without manual scrolling.
- When the Move by Horizon setting is on and you're on a view of 1 week or longer, the forward and back controls advance the Gantt by one full horizon length at a time. For example, a 1-month view moves forward or back by 1 month. When the setting is off, the forward and back controls scroll continuously. On views shorter than 1 week, the Gantt always moves one day at a time. Your choice is saved per user.
- Use Go Back to return to your previous view. Go Back restores the prior view, scroll position, and selected resource scope. You can drill into a specific month, week, or day and quickly return to where you were.
Work with Long-Cycle and Complex Work
Long-term views change how work is shown so that a long horizon stays readable.
- Multi-day appointments skip weekends and holidays instead of showing as a solid block, so you can see true availability. The appointment shows a breakdown of its duration, such as work time, travel time, and non-working gaps.
- Lunch breaks are hidden on multi-day appointments to reduce visual clutter.
- Short-cycle appointments of 1–4 hours stay visible and clickable even at a 6-month or 12-month zoom. Short and long appointments are visually distinct so that you don't confuse them, and overlapping short appointments are grouped with a count so that you can reach all of them.
Data Limits at Long Horizons
The Gantt limits loaded data to stay responsive. If a horizon exceeds this limit, an indicator shows the reached threshold and suggests next steps (such as narrowing the time frame or filtering resources). When the schedule loads completely, no indicator appears.
