            Fulfill Hardware Requests Using Soft Reservations

            Secure inventory for specific demand sources before picking physical devices from the stockroom shelf. Soft reservations proactively prevent double-booking while giving your inventory managers time to physically fulfill the request.

            Required Editions

            Available in: Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited Editions with Agentforce IT Service.

            Source hardware and create soft reservations Hardware Asset Management permission set license AND appropriate ITAM role

            Before you begin, verify that your Salesforce admin configured the InventoryReservation and InventoryItemReservation entities. Also make sure that the admin updated Product Item page layouts to include granular quantity fields.

            When you source hardware, select to reserve any available asset for a soft reservation or a specific asset for a hard allocation. A soft reservation immediately decrements the Quantity Available on the Product Item record. This adjustment prevents other fulfillers from claiming the stock before a serial number is attached.

            1. From the App Launcher, find and select IT Hardware Asset Management.
            2. Select Service Requests.
            3. Select an approved service request.
            4. Select Source Product.
            5. Select a location with the requested asset available.
            6. Select a reservation type for the requested products. To create a hard allocation, select Reserve Specific Asset and find an exact device by serial number or asset tag.
            7. Click Next.
            8. Review the sourcing summary, and reserve the asset.

            The local inventory rep must now physically pick the device. Select Add Asset on the fulfillment order line item to transition the soft reservation into a hard allocation.
