Transfer hardware between stockrooms by using product transfers to keep inventory
counts accurate. Product transfers maintain data integrity by moving assets between locations
with the same usage type.
Required Editions
Available in: Lightning Experience
Available in: Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited
Editions with Agentforce IT Service.
User Permissions Needed
To manage product transfers:
Hardware Asset Management - Inventory Manager
Make sure that both the source and destination locations share the same Location
Usage Type, such as Asset based. The system blocks transfers between
locations with different usage types to maintain data integrity.
Make sure that you haven't linked the hardware to an active fulfillment order or service
request.
From the App Launcher, find and select IT Hardware
Asset Management.
Select Product Transfers.
Select New.
Enter the transfer details:
Source Location: Select the stockroom that the hardware is leaving.
Destination Location: Select the stockroom receiving the hardware.
Add the specific hardware to the transfer:
Go to the Related tab and select New
in the Product Transfer Line Items related list.
Select the Product and specify the
Quantity.
Link the specific Asset record to the line item.
When you're ready to move the hardware, change the Status of
the Product Transfer to Sent.
The asset's Status automatically updates to In
Transit.
The Quantity In Transit field on the source product item
increments, while Quantity On Hand remains unchanged at the
source until you complete the transfer.
After the hardware arrives at the destination stockroom, open the Product
Transfer record and select Mark as Received.
The asset's Status automatically updates to
Available at the new location.
Inventory decrements from the source location and Quantity On
Hand increments at the destination location.
The Asset Activity timeline on the asset record permanently logs
the move, providing a complete audit trail of the hardware's location history.
