Configuration Item Record and Tabs
Each configuration item (CI) record contains essential asset details collected manually or through asset discovery. You can view the record to assess technical and business metadata, verify ownership, and understand upstream and downstream dependencies. Use the record to troubleshoot incidents faster, assess ownership, and track related issues across IT operations.

The CI record includes the asset's name, type, owner, platform details, criticality, and other metadata. The values depend on the configuration item type and the attributes defined for that type.
The details tab provides a complete view of the asset, including system configuration, hardware specifications, network details, and installed software. Use this information to assess the asset’s condition and understand how it fits into your IT environment. Each section appears based on the attributes defined for the configuration item type. Sections expand to show detailed field values, helping teams understand system specifications, configurations, and usage.
Use Show Key Attributes to focus on the most important configuration item information without scrolling through all attributes. When enabled, the CI record displays a curated set of key attributes that help users quickly understand the asset’s identity, ownership, and status. When you create an attribute, you can specify an attribute as a key attribute. For more information, see Create a Configuration Item Attribute.
The configuration item record includes tabs that organize related information and relationships:
| Tab Name | Description |

| Details | Shows the complete set of attributes defined for the asset’s configuration item type. The fields are populated during CI creation, import, or discovery. You can edit the details if you have the required permissions. |
| Components | Shows the child CIs that make up a parent CI. Understand how an asset is composed and how its components relate to the overall system. Components can include items such as network adapters, storage disks, installed software, or running processes, depending on the CI type. The Components tab supports faster troubleshooting and impact analysis by presenting component data in a structured, filterable list. Use the Components tab to manage supporting component records associated with a CI. Depending on the component type, you can create or delete components directly from the CI record page. | Relationships | Shows all direct relationships between this configuration item and other CIs. You can view source and target relationships and choose the appropriate relationship type from a predefined list. You can use Service Map to visualize how this configuration item connects to other assets, applications, or infrastructure components in your environment. | History | Shows the changes and discovery activity for a CI over time. The tab shows when the configuration item was discovered or updated and identifies the source responsible for each change, such as a discovery app or an import process. Track and audit changes, validate discovery behavior, and understand how a CI evolved over time. |
| Related | Lists all records linked to the configuration item across ITSM features. The list includes:

Discovery Card
The Discovery card gives visibility into how and when a configuration item was discovered. The card shows the discovery source, the application that created or updated the configuration item, and the first and most recent discovery timestamps. This information helps you to assess data freshness and trust the origin of CI records.
Configuration Item Tags
Use tags to classify and organize configuration items across your CMDB. Tags help teams search, filter, and group related CIs more efficiently. You can add tags manually or through discovery and import processes. For more information, see Configuration Item Tags.
