          Configuration Item Tags

          Configuration Item Tags

Use configuration item (CI) tags to group and organize CIs across your CMDB. Tags are flexible labels that help teams filter, identify, and manage related CIs more efficiently. Apply tags manually or populate them through discovery, imports, and APIs. Teams can use tags to represent operational, business, or environment-specific metadata across different CI types.

          Required Editions

          Available in: Lightning Experience
Available in: Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited Editions with Agentforce IT Service that have CMDB and Service Graph enabled.

A tag consists of a label that helps identify or classify a CI. You can associate multiple tags with a single CI. Teams can then use these tags to filter and locate related CIs across the CMDB. You can create tags as key-value pairsor as single-value tags. For example, an organization can use these tags:

          Key-value tags

          • Environment:Production
          • BusinessService:Payments
          • MaintenanceWindow:Saturday

          Single-value tags

          • CloudDiscovered
          • CustomerManaged

          CI tags are available in:

          • CI records
          • List view filters
          • Search experiences
          • Discovery processes
          • APIs

Discovery and import processes can automatically associate tags with CIs when CIs are added to CMDB. During CI import, CMDB also imports tags associated with configuration items.

For more information on how to create tags in a CI record page, Create Configuration Item Tag.

          Example
Example A cloud operations team discovers Linux servers across AWS, Azure, and on-premises environments. The team applies tags such as Environment:Production and CloudDiscovered to identify production infrastructure quickly across the CMDB. During an incident investigation, operators can filter CIs using these tags to identify affected systems more efficiently.
