Configuration Item Type Record and Tabs

Configuration Item Type Record and Tabs

Each configuration item (CI) type record defines how related CIs behave in Configuration Management Database (CMDB). The record acts as a template and includes all required fields, rules, and supported relationships for the CI type. You can use the record to verify the structure, hierarchy, and logic that apply to CIs of this type.

          Required Editions

          Available in: Lightning Experience
Available in: Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited Editions with Agentforce IT Service that have CMDB and Service Graph enabled.

The CI type record includes tabs that help you define structure, enforce rules, and track associated configuration items.

          Configuration item type record

The tabs in a CI type record help you manage how CIs are defined, categorized, and matched during discovery and import.

          Tab Name Description
Details Displays the name, description, parent CI type, and whether the type is marked as a component. The tab also shows metadata like created date and hierarchy. This tab helps you understand the role of the CI type and how it fits in the type hierarchy.
Attributes Lists all attributes defined or inherited by the CI type. The attributes represent the data fields available in CI records. You can view attributes like application name or server IP address and use the Manage Attributes button to modify them. For more information, see Configuration Item Attributes and Attribute Sets in CMDB.
Rules Shows identification rules that help match incoming asset data with existing CIs. Identification rules prevent duplicates by using key attributes like serial number or MAC address. For more information, see Identification Rules in CMDB.
Configuration Items Lists all configuration items created using this CI type. You can use this tab to assess usage and navigate to individual CIs for further review. For more information, seeConfiguration Items in CMDB.
