          Create a Configuration Item Attribute

          Create a Configuration Item Attribute

Capture specific asset metadata, such as license details, application name, and hardware identifiers. Each attribute defines a field on the CI record. You can reuse an attribute across multiple configuration item types.

          Required Editions

          Available in: Lightning Experience
Available in: Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited Editions with Agentforce IT Service that have CMDB and Service Graph enabled.
          User Permissions Needed
To create configuration item attributes: CMDB Admin OR CMDB Standard User

          1. From the App Launcher, find and select CMDB and Service Graph.
          2. In the navigation panel, select Administration, and then select CMDB.
          3. Click CI Attributes Manager.
          4. Click New CI Attribute and then provide these details.
            Field Description
Name Name of the attribute. For example, acquisition date, server role, or license key.
Attribute Set Name Attribute set that must be linked to this attribute. For example, asset primary information or network adapter details.
Type Data type of the attribute. Supported types include integer, boolean, double, text, picklist, date, and lookup relationship.

Lookup Relationship lets you link a configuration item attribute to another Salesforce record. Use this type to reference related business or operational data, such as owners, accounts, or cost centers, without duplicating information.

API Name Unique API name of the attribute. For example, bios_serial_number, cpu_manufacturer, and installed_software_version.
Mark as Mandatory Indicates whether the attribute is required for all configuration items using this attribute.
Mark as Key Attribute Indicates whether the attribute appears as a key attribute on the CI record. The key attributes of a CI can be filtered using Show Key Attributes in a CI record page. For more information on Show Key Attributes, see Configuration Item Record and Tabs.
          5. Save the changes.

The attribute is added under the associated attribute set in the CI Attributes Manager list.
