            Create a Configuration Item Type

            Define a new configuration item (CI) type to represent a specific asset category in Configuration Management Database (CMDB). Each CI type includes required attributes, relationships, and rules that apply to the assets it manages.

            Required Editions

            Available in: Lightning Experience
            Available in: Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited Editions with Agentforce IT Service that have CMDB and Service Graph enabled.
            User Permissions Needed
            To create configuration item types: IT Service Configuration Item Type Manager
            1. From App Launcher, find and select CMDB and Service Graph.
            2. In the navigation panel, select Administration, and then select CMDB.
            3. Click CI Type Manager.
            4. Click New and then complete the details:.
              Field Description
              Configuration Item Type Name Name for the new CI type. For example, database server, laptop, or load balancer.
              Parent Configuration Item Type CI type that serves as the parent. Use this field to create a hierarchy and group similar CI types together. For example, the laptop CI type can be a child of the CI type named device .
              Description Description of the type of assets this CI type represents. For example, CI type for all business laptops.
              Mark as Component Classification that identifies CIs of this type as part of larger systems or services. For example, hard drive can be a component of a database server.
            5. Click Save.

            The CI type is added to the Configuration Item Type Manager list.
