          Edit an Identification Rule

          Edit an Identification Rule

          Use identification rules to define how configuration items (CIs) are uniquely identified during discovery or import. Accurate matching helps prevent duplicate records and improves CMDB data quality.

          Required Editions

          Available in: Lightning Experience
          Available in: Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited Editions with Agentforce IT Service that have CMDB and Service Graph enabled.
          User Permissions Needed
          To create or edit identification rules in configuration item types: IT Service Configuration Item Type Manager
          1. From the App Launcher, find and select CMDB and Service Graph.
          2. In the navigation panel, select Administration, and then select CMDB.
          3. Click CI Type Manager.
          4. Select the configuration item type.
          5. On the configuration item type page, go to the Rules tab.
          6. On the Identification section, click Edit in the identification rule, and then complete the details:
            1. Update the rule name, if needed.
            2. From the Available list, select the attributes to use as identifiers and move it the to the Selected list.
          7. Save your changes.

          The updated rule is used to match incoming records during asset discovery or import. CMDB uses the selected attributes to prevent duplicates and link records accurately.
