Add Attributes to a Configuration Item Type

Add Attributes to a Configuration Item Type

Use the Attributes tab in a configuration item (CI) type to define the fields that appear on CI records of that type. Organize metadata into clear, collapsible sections to improve usability and make configuration data easier to read. Attributes helps your team focus on the most relevant information when managing CIs.

Add attributes to configuration item types: IT Service Configuration Item Type Manager

You can manage attributes for a configuration item type in the Attributes tab of a CI record page. Defined attributes are directly assigned to the selected CI type. For example, a database server CI type may include attributes like instance name, port number, and version as defined attributes.

You can also view inherited attributes, which are passed down from a parent CI type. For example, a virtual workstation CI type can inherit attributes such as operating system version and memory size from the parent workstation CI type.

          1. From the App Launcher, find and select CMDB and Service Graph.
          2. In the navigation panel, select Administration, and then select CMDB.
          3. Click CI Type Manager.
          4. Select the configuration item type to update.
          5. In the record page, go to the Attributes tab.
          6. On Defined Attributes, click Manage Attributes.
          7. Move the required attributes from the Available list to the Selected list.
          8. Click Save.

The selected attributes are applied to the configuration item type. They appear as editable fields in the CI record, grouped in the relevant attribute set.
