Configuration Management Database and Service Graph Data Kit

Configuration Management Database and Service Graph Data Kit

The IT Service CMDB data kit allows you to enrich your Data Cloud instance with core Configuration Management Database (CMDB) information. By syncing configuration item (CI) data including relationships, attributes, and type definitions, it prepares your infrastructure data for deep analysis and reporting. It maps to essential Data Model Objects (DMOs) such as Configuration Item and Configuration Item Relationship to provide visibility into your IT asset landscape and dependencies.

When you turn on the CMDB feature in Setup, Salesforce automatically deploys the CMDB Data Kit. You don't need to manually install or deploy the package. This automated deployment immediately sets up the architecture needed to ingest and map your configuration data.

For each core CMDB entity, the data kit automatically provisions a Data Lake Object (DLO), an Ingestion API, and a Data Model Object (DMO). The CMDB Data Kit includes five core data streams to seamlessly unify your IT infrastructure data.

          Data Stream what it does
Configuration Item The Configuration Item data stream is the foundation of your CMDB data. It connects foundational data about the physical and logical components of your IT infrastructure such as servers, applications, and network devices ensuring a unified view of your assets.
Attribute The Attribute data stream brings in the specific properties and characteristics associated with your configuration items. This provides the granular details necessary for infrastructure analysis, such as IP addresses, operating systems, and hardware specifications.
Definition The Definition data stream focuses on bringing in the metadata and schema structures of your configuration items. This ensures that the classes and structures of your data are accurately represented and mapped within the system.
Relationship The Relationship data stream is designed to bring in data about how different configuration items interact and connect with each other. This data is critical for mapping infrastructure dependencies, performing root cause analysis, and understanding the impact of proposed changes.
Value The Value data stream ingests the specific data values associated with your attributes and definitions. This ensures that the exact, current state of each infrastructure component is accurately reflected in your data model.
