Connect CMDB to Data 360

Turn on CMDB on Data Cloud and Data Sync on Data Cloud to copy Configuration Management Database (CMDB) data to Data 360. Verify that the data streams and Data Model Objects contain CMDB data.

Required Editions

Available in: Lightning Experience
Available in: Unlimited and Developer Editions with Agentforce IT Service and Data 360
User Permissions Needed
To connect CMDB to Data 360:

Salesforce org: System Administrator

AND

Data 360 org: Data Cloud Admin

Before you turn on CMDB on Data Cloud, confirm that your org meets these requirements:

In Salesforce Go, the Turn On CMDB on Data Cloud option is available only after CMDB is turned on and the ITSMOrgPermission org permission is enabled. The Turn On Data Sync on Data Cloud option becomes available after you turn on CMDB on Data Cloud.

The CMDB Data Kit creates the data streams, Data Lake Objects (DLOs), Data Model Objects (DMOs), and mappings for CMDB data. When you turn on data sync, CMDB copies the records that already exist in your org to Data 360, including the records created before you turned on Data Cloud. New and updated records then continue to sync.

  1. From Setup, click Salesforce Go.
  2. Search for and select Configuration Management Database (CMDB).
  3. Click Get Started.
  4. Confirm that Turn On Configuration Management Database (CMDB) is on.
  5. Under Unlock Advanced Functionality, select Turn On CMDB on Data Cloud.
This option deploys the CMDB Data Kit and creates the data streams, DLOs, and DMOs. The deployment runs in the background and you can leave the page while the deployment runs. Salesforce sends you an email when the deployment starts and another email when the deployment is completed. For more information, see Configuration Management Database and Service Graph Data Kit.
  6. Select Turn On Data Sync on Data Cloud.
This option is available after Turn On CMDB on Data Cloud is on. CMDB copies the records that already exist in your org to Data 360, including the records created before you turned on Data Cloud. You don't run a separate job. The sync runs in the background and can take some time to complete, depending on the volume of your CMDB data. New and updated records continue to sync while this option is on.
  7. If you turn data sync off and then on again, review the cost message and confirm the action.
When you turn data sync on again, CMDB copies all records to Data 360 again. The extra sync uses more of your Data 360 capacity.
  8. In the Data 360 app, open the Data Streams tab and confirm that the CMDB data streams are present.
  9. Open the Data Model tab and confirm that the CMDB DMOs are present.
  10. To confirm that the sync is completed, open a CMDB DMO and compare its record count with the record count in CMDB.
If the record counts don't match, the sync is still in progress. Check again later. If records are still missing, contact Salesforce Customer Support.
  11. To confirm that record changes sync, create a CI type in CMDB, and then open the Configuration Item Definition DMO in Data 360.
For more information about creating CI types, see Create a Configuration Item Type.
The new CI type appears in the DMO. If the record is missing, check again later.

Data 360 contains a copy of the supported CMDB records. CMDB remains the source of truth, and record changes continue to sync when data sync is on.
