How Intune Discovery Works
Microsoft Intune discovery uses Salesforce Flow to synchronize device data from Intune into CMDB in a secure and controlled way.
When you configure an Intune discovery target, Salesforce uses an auto-launched flow to connect to Microsoft Intune through a registered integration connection. The flow authenticates using OAuth credentials and prepares the data exchange between Intune and CMDB.
Before discovery runs, you define how Intune device attributes map to configuration item fields in CMDB. Field mapping controls how incoming data such as device identifiers, operating system details, ownership, and status populate configuration items. The mapping ensures that Intune data aligns with your CMDB data model and supports consistent identification and updates.
During each run, the flow retrieves device records from Intune and processes them based on the configured field mappings and identification rules. If a device matches an existing configuration item, CMDB updates the record. If no match is found, CMDB creates a new configuration item. The approach keeps device data current while preventing duplicate records.
Since the Intune discovery runs through Salesforce Flow, you can monitor execution status, review failures, and manage integration behavior using standard Salesforce tools. The flow-based approach gives you visibility and control while keeping device discovery aligned with your CMDB configuration.
