Knowledge Blocks Limitations and Considerations
Before you start using Knowledge Blocks, review its limitations and considerations.
Required Editions
| Available in Lightning Experience. View supported editions. |
- Knowledge Block content has a limit of 32,000 characters. A Knowledge Block can contain up to 32,000 characters. An article Rich Text Area field can contain up to 131,072 characters.
- Delete only unused draft or unused archived block versions. You can delete a block version only when it’s a draft or archived version and no draft or published article uses it.
- To delete a knowledge block, delete all versions first. You can’t delete a knowledge block while it still has versions. If draft or published articles use the block, remove those references, delete the versions, and then delete the block.
- Restored article drafts exclude deleted block content. If you restore an archived article that uses a deleted knowledge block version, the restored draft doesn’t include that block’s content.
- Finish one knowledge block update before you start another. When you update a knowledge block, wait until all articles that use it are updated before you update another knowledge block. If you update several knowledge blocks without waiting, some article updates can fail.
- Publishing several block versions at the same time can cause article updates to skip or
fail. If an article uses more than one of those blocks, auto-update and auto-publish
can conflict on that article. The Article Update Status related list can show:
- Skipped. Another block’s update changed or archived the article.
- Failed. Two updates reached the same article draft at the same time. Try again to update the articles.
- Publish Failed. The draft was updated, but auto-publish didn’t finish. Publish the article manually.
- Translate Knowledge Blocks for use in another language. To insert a knowledge block into an article in another language, translate the block into that language first.
- Publish the default-language version before you publish block versions in other languages. You can’t publish a block version in another language until you publish the default-language version. Knowledge Blocks don’t support auto-translation, so translate those versions manually.
