Model Attendance

For attendance management, the Attendance Event object helps you track students' tardiness or absences, reasons for missed attendance, and total participation during a Term.

An Attendance Event record is always related to a Contact and always specifies a date. Other details, such as whether the missed attendance is for a specific Course Connection, and whether the missed attendance is unexcused, are optional. If your institution tracks tardiness or partial-day absences, you can also track arrival, departure, and return times.

Let's see how a set of Attendance Event records could look for a sample Contact. Clare Karombo is a senior at Daisy Bates Academy, where all seniors participate in a project-based seminar called Senior Integrated Learning. A Course Connection record, CC-0048, represents Clare's involvement in the class. The instructor tracks attendance at the weekly check-ins. So far this term, Clare has accrued a few excused absences.

Absences are sometimes a sign that something's going on in a student's life that warrants a closer look. But in Clare's case, her teacher sees that she's otherwise punctual, present, and highly engaged in her community oral history project. Clare is on track for graduation, and her Attendance Event data doesn't signal a cause for concern.
