Model Suspects and Prospects
Identify and recruit the best-fit applicants for your institution.
- Model Suspects and Prospects
In order to find the best-fit applicants for your institution, recruiting tracks suspects and prospects. Use the standard Lead and Contact Salesforce objects to track suspects and prospects, respectively. Here's why: Prospects have signaled interest in your institution, so creating a Contact record for them gives recruiting teams more robust detail to better engage with potential students. Suspects, on the other hand, haven't yet signaled interest so it's premature to create Contacts for them. When a suspect does raise their hand, convert the Lead to a Contact and Account.

At Connected University, the recruiting team is looking for applicants from the East Coast. They have a list of recent PSAT takers in that region who have agreed to share their information with schools, but haven't specifically reached out to Connected University. The recruiting team prepared the list and imported the data to create Lead records for each suspect. Let’s look more closely at one suspect, Louis Lombard.
Lead record
The recruiting team sends targeted marketing emails to the Leads, and Louis responds to one asking for more information about the Computer Science program. A recruiting team member responds to his email and then converts Louis’s Lead record, which creates these records.
| Record name | Record created when... | Record represents... |
|---|---|---|
| Louis Lombard | Connected University imported a list acquired from a testing service. | A suspect who hasn't signaled interest in the university. |
Contact record
| Record name | Record created when... | Record represents... |
|---|---|---|
| Louis Lombard | Louis's Lead record was converted. | A prospect who has signaled interest in the university. |
Account record
| Record name | Record created when... | Record represents... |
|---|---|---|
| Lombard Administrative Account | Louis's Lead record was converted. | The container Account for a prospect's Contact record, assuming Connected University uses the Administrative Account model. |
Opportunity record
To track Louis as a prospect who's interested in the Computer Science program, the recruiter also creates an Affiliation record.
| Record name | Record created when... | Record represents... |
|---|---|---|
| Lombard- Undergrad Fall '22 | Louis's Lead record was converted. | An official chance for the prospect to enroll at the university. |
Affiliation record
| Record name | Record created when... | Record represents... |
|---|---|---|
| AF-123456 | A recruiting staff member updates Louis's Contact record. | Louis's interest in the Computer Science program.
|
Now the recruiting team can deliver Louis a more personalized recruitment experience that focuses on what the Computer Science program can offer.
